You know I have to admit to being a huge admirer of Craig Ferguson the late night chat show host on CBS. In what is generally one of the most phony places in entertainment he has on occasion forged a path to the most raw and powerful of eulogies from the heart. And rather than them being a death knell to ratings and entertainment these moments brought people in to a deeper experience. Brave in US TV terms but very beautiful.
First he did an extraordinary episode (below) after his father died. Very moving. And similarly after his mother died. But also there’s a great one about vulnerable people relating to his own past (see below).
Also the White House correspondance dinner speech he gave a couple of years ago in front of Bush was fabulous.
Oh and just discovered he did a whole episode with Bishop Desmond Tutu.
This is incredibly honest, after Craig lost his father.
Here is an amazing monologue about Brittany Spears from the heart. Now bear in mind this is about 12 mins which means the network will likely have held back the commercials. I think for network television this is extraordinary.
Part one with Desmond Tutu
White House correspondance dinner (his bit on Liberal Media bias his hysterical)
